Motets, Magnificats, and More

Feast of St Britius, Bishop

Redeemer Presbyterian Church

I’ll join the St David’s Compline Choir (and friends) for a concert of ‘Motets, Magnificats, and More’ by Bach, Buxtehude, and Walther. The program features two of Bach’s six motets for choir, works of supreme difficulty; settings of the Magnificat (Song of the Blessed Virgin Mary) for choir and for solo organ by Buxtehude; and other organ works by Buxtehude, Bach, and Bach’s cousin and colleague, J.G. Walther. Redeemer Presbyterian Church boasts not only superlative acoustics for choral and solo organ music, but also the oldest organ in Texas, a unique and soulful instrument built in 1862 in New England and modified to be especially suitable for Baroque music.
