Let’s hack ‘the media’, or at least our brains, so that every group descriptor is automatically replaced with ‘human being’ or ‘your flesh and blood’ or ‘your brothers and sisters’, every instance of ‘resource’ with ‘relative’, every ‘habitat’ with ‘home’, every ‘the environment’ with ‘your mother’, every ‘corporation’ or ‘government’ with ‘you’, as we all participate directly or indirectly, by action or inaction, by virtue of our human existence, in the greed and violence that afflict us all:
Seventy human beings suffocated in a truck.
Two hundred of your brothers and sisters drowned at sea.
You are building a wall, a fence, a trench to keep out your own kin.
Your flesh and blood was ripped apart and spattered on the sidewalk.
Your relatives are being sucked dry and driven from their homes.
